Everyone loves rabbit strips for their movement, but as you’ve most likely experienced, they’re highly prone to fouling when used as tails. Fish don’t particularly like fouled flies and there’s nothing more frustrating than checking your fly after an awesome tarpon shot, only to see the rabbit strip wrapped around the bend of the hook. There are a few ways to prevent fouling, Pat Cohen has found the in-line mono loop guard demonstrated in the video above to be the most efficient at preventing fouling while allowing freedom of movement. This technique can be used for any size tail by adjusting the point of entry.
