Mark Giacobba Q&A Fly Fishing Everglades National Park

Mark Giacobba’s seminar was a practical, experience-driven look at fly fishing the Florida Everglades—especially the Flamingo area—shaped by his 25 years of guiding in one of the most dynamic shallow-water fisheries around. He emphasized that success in Flamingo isn’t about one magic fly or trick—it’s about reading the environment and adjusting constantly. The Everglades change fast, and Mark’s main message was that anglers who stay observant, patient, and flexible consistently do better.

He broke down what makes the Flamingo fishery so unique: a mix of flats, mangrove shorelines, and shifting water movement that can completely change with tide, wind, light, and water clarity. Mark stressed paying attention to the small tells—how bait is behaving, how fish react to pressure, and what “fishy water” looks like—then making smart decisions about when to slow down, when to move, and how to approach fish in skinny water without rushing the shot.

Mark also touched briefly on his professional roots, including time spent working at Bass Pro Shop alongside Capt. Bill Curtis. He framed it as an important early chapter—more about learning through shared time and conversations than anything that overshadowed the seminar’s main focus.

And beyond fishing, he highlighted another side of his Everglades life: his wildlife and nature photography, which is nothing short of incredible. It came through in how he sees the place—like a guide who isn’t just chasing fish, but noticing everything: birds, light, weather, and the small wild moments that make Flamingo feel alive.

Overall, the seminar felt like equal parts instruction and Everglades perspective—clear, grounded advice from a seasoned Flamingo guide, paired with a deep appreciation for the landscape he’s spent decades exploring.

Thank you to everyone who came out to the event at the shop—your time, energy, and support made it a great one. We really appreciate you showing up, asking great questions, and sharing the fly fishing stoke with us. Hope you had as much fun as we did, and we’ll see you at the next one!
