Popular Sage Gear
Legend rod designer Don Green founded Sage in 1980 on Bainbridge Island. Don designed Sage’s first fly rods to be able to always utilize 100% of the rod’s power by holding power in reserve during fishing situations when the angler is not utilizing the full power and flex of the rod. Released in 1982, the Reserved Power (RP) fly rods’ ability to make extra long casts in windy situations put the name Sage on the tip of fly anglers’ tongues around the world.
The early ’80s saw the struggle of anglers trying to fish in saltwater with fly rods designed for freshwater. In 1986 Sage stepped up to the plate and released the world’s first saltwater specific rod series, the RPLX. Built for line weights 8-12, these rods performed in difficult saltwater conditions and quickly became the standard for saltwater fly fishing.
Today Sage continues to seek every little performance advantage it can through new materials and designs. Sage lays it all on the table with the company’s mission statement: We are passionate about our business of creating fly fishing products that continually exceed the fly angler’s expectations. Wherever in the world your fly fishing takes you, it is safe to say that Sage has the products to enhance your fly fishing experience.
