Poppin water gets the fish to eat!
I came up with the Poppin’ Shrimp as I was trying to develop a fly that retained a good pop while chugging through the water.
I’ve always had a big issue with top water flies because they are difficult to throw and usually become a sub-surface fly after getting fished.
I would create an aerodynamic, unsinkable top water fly using double foam which would help the fly retain buoyancy and that sweet “blub blub” sound as it travels along the surface.
This is one of my go to flies.
It can take bite after bite and survive an entire day of fishing without getting destroyed.
Using the Poppin’ Shrimp, I’ve caught everything from redfish to largemouth to snook, and everything in between that likes to feed off the top water.
