A more universal, all-water intermediate
The Cortland 444 Big Game Intermediate is built on a monofilament core, covered with a supple, crystal-clear intermediate coating. With a sink rate of 1.25 – 1.75 IPS, and a coating that performs best in chillier conditions, the Big Game Intermediate is ideal for winter mornings offshore, on the beach, and in the backcountry. Its versatility also makes it a great intermediate fly line for pike & musky as well as saltwater in the northeast. With a more compact, aggressive weight forward taper, the Big Game Intermediate is designed specifically to load larger weight rods at shorter distances.

Hello, what’s the difference between this line and the expensive brother the Liquid Crystal? Thank you

Hi Henry, they are two totally different lines. The 444 is an intermediate line and the liquid crystal is a floating to start off with. Both lines have similar tapers, but they are not the same. They do have very similar grain weights as well.

  2. Question

    Nace

Cortland Big Game Intermediate – Do you have customers using this line in the Southeast during the summer for inshore tidal creeks? Does it wilt too much? Should I step up to the Cortland Tropic product? I’m in SC. Thx

This line performs well in a wider variety of temperatures, meaning it performs better in heat than a cold water intermediate, and performs better in cooler conditions than a tropical line. Our customers who have loved this line are those who split time with it between fishing the surf in the southeast for snook and in the northeast for stripers. It does both well. For your summer months the tropical line will perform best, but if you’re looking for a more versatile line that you can use in fall and spring as well, this is the line.

  3. Question

    Rick Kowalski

Would the Cortland 444 Big Game Intermediate fly line be OK to use fishing the surf
on Hobe Beach and the beaches on Hutchinson Island. I’ll be fishing the months of Oct. thru the beginning of May then heading North for the summer. Or should I use a Tropical Fly Line
    Thanks
    Rick

This line should work well for you Rick. We have customers who even use this line in the summer here. So you don’t need to worry about it wilting too much in the heat, especially being that the months you’ll be in Florida tend to be the cooler months.
