Accuracy is everything
It’s no secret that fly fishing is a game of inches. There are so many factors that can throw off your cast and the Orvis Helios 3 is on a mission to silence the variables. With almost autocorrect-like properties, the H3 provides un-compromised accuracy. Through a reinforced blank with a greater hoop strength, the rod won’t oval when under pressure thus dampening the vibration and reducing tip frequency as the rod unloads. A truer path to the target is the end result.
The reinforced blank also adds strength, meaning more pulling and hauling power. With the D in 3D standing for distance, the Helios 3D model is the faster rod for shooting long and true in windy saltwater and warmwater conditions.

How much futher can a 9 ft rod cast then a 8. 6 rod
Mike Mastropasqua –
Allen, don’t think of it in terms of how much further can one rod cast over the other. In capable hands any rod can be thrown 80ft. Think of it in terms of what is optimized by the design of the rod. Typically shorter rods are designed to be loaded quicker and make shorter shots quicker (less time to load the rod) and easier especially with larger flies… The H3 is designed to optimize accuracy, especially in the most important range in sight fishing – 40-60ft. The H3D model is optimized to handle wind, larger flies, and distance (line speed) better than the H3F with its softer tip designed to provide more feel and finesse.

I have owned many brands of rods. Especially Fly Rods. The Orvis 4 piece rods have been the best. I have Helios 1, 2, and 3. I’d though NOT like the 3 color. My Helios 1, 2 I like the fit and finish better. Need a blue rod for salt. Not a black shaft. I think it can spook fish. Even the older Zero Gravity etc., are great Rods.

I have been fishing the Helios 3 for a year now. By far the best rod Orvis has put out to date. The design put into this rod to be more accurate is spot on. I can honestly say we have caught fish because of it. Having the option of 2 different style rods in the same weight class, gives every scenario covered on the water. Absolutely love the Helios 3!
