Incredibly responsive and ready for the flats.
The newly designed Orvis Recon is the ultimate in saltwater flats fishing tools. Made to be ultra-light and extremely accurate this rod performs under the most difficult pressure and allows it to be used as a mere extension to your arms. Orvis has spent a lot of time in research and development to make a rod that is not only incredibly powerful but incredibly accurate at any distance. The high-quality componentry found in this rod rivals some of the higher end rods on the market.

If you want to throw bass and pike flies on a SA Sonar Titan sink tip, but also fish for carp and maybe redfish, would you go with the Recon 2, the Axiom 2, Axiom 2-X, or something else? I Wade and fish from a boat, and I am looking for a decent all around 8W.

Hi Ryan,
So the Recon is going to be a better all-around rod. The SA Titan is a little heavier line but it will still perform well on the Recon. The Axiom II X is a stiff rod and will throw that line for pike well but you will also lose a lot of feels while fighting fish. The Axiom 2 is a great all-around rod but you will not get the same performance as far as feel and control go vs the Recon.

Hi Doug.
No, the TFO Axiom II X is much faster and has the ability to throw bigger flies in wind. You do sacrifice the feel the Orvis recon has.
