Appropriately named after the element used in jet engines
As salt-centric as we are, the Waterworks Lamson Cobalt is the saltwater oriented reel we’ve always wanted Lamson to produce. The element cobalt is known for its ability to maintain strength at extreme temperatures. You’ll see why the name fits so well when you have a saltwater powerhouse – be it a bonefish, permit, tarpon, shark, tuna or billfish – turn on the jets. The Cobalt’s drag system is a supercharged version of Waterworks Lamson’s smooth conical drag system that rotates on high-precision ABEC 5 ceramic ball bearings and uses a proprietary high-temperature graphite alloy to create 12+ pounds of torque.

On the 10 and 12 models – the numbered drag increments and the simplicity of a drag knob that goes zero to full power in one full rotation is an often overlooked feature that Lamson integrated in the Cobalt (10 & 12), knowing it’ll make guides’ and anglers’ lives a bit easier.

On the 6 and 8 models – the numbered single revolution system is foregone for a lighter system with finer resolution.

The sealed drag systems are certified waterproof up to 100 feet, one of several industry firsts for this reel.

The spool and frame are technologically fortified for strength and smoothness. The dual-axis machined frame dramatically strengthens the side that bears the most load and the large arbor spool is machined with subtle asymmetries to bring perfect balance without the use of a traditional counterweight. You’ll notice how close the embedded reel foot sits to the frame. This is for more efficient weight distribution and to eliminate the kick-back or recoil you typically get with larger reels.

Exclusive Micralox finish is as hard as type III anodize but offers 20 times the protection in saltwater environments. Confidence in your gear is so important in saltwater fly fishing, and that’s exactly what Waterworks Lamson has produced with the Cobalt.
