A better way to add weight to your flies
The Umpqua Jig Bomb Drop Bead are the better way to add weight to any pattern. Jig Bombs are the solution to add more accurate weights. The trend of oversizing beads to add more weight means that tyers lose shank length and are limited to what hooks they can use. The unique teardrop shape of the Bombs means they are about 20% heavier than a standard slotted bead while keeping 15% more hook shank to create a body with.
All of this means that flies maintain great proportions and drop into the zone and stay there. The unique design of the Jig Bomb’s will flip any hook and turn it into a Jig and of course, it works beautifully on all hooks.
These Bombs are built into our specialized collection of flats flies called Survive Entry, so the sky is the limit with creativity. Available in 2.5mm-5.0mm and a rainbow of colors. Jig Bombs are the standard to which all other beads are measured against.

The concept of jig bombs is really novel and ingenious. I have tied Clousers and lightbulbs etc with them and like the fact that they do not crowd the head of a fly like dumbbell eyes do. That said, about a third of jig bombs seem to break off. At first I thought that this was a tying error, but when I looked closer I could see that the jig bomb had broken and a small portion where it had been tied in remained. This is much more likely to occur when fishing around oyster bars, mangrove roots etc. If you are fishing over sand this is much less of a problem. Jig bombs are a great concept but they need to be made stronger so that they will not break when pulled over debris.
