Monofilament Thread is a staple in the saltwater fly tyer’s arsenal. It’s used whenever you want the head colors to show through the thread. Epoxy headed flies like the Eat Me require mono to allow the colors show under the head. We use .006 as an all purpose size. .004 builds up far less bulk but you sacrifice a little strength for it. .008 will be for your largest flies and for heavy duty tying.
