Choice hook for Bass bugs and other deer hair flies
The Gamakatsu B10S is a a wide-gap stinger hook that is traditionally used for Bass flies. Not only do be tie deer hair poppers and other surface flies with it, but we love to adapt traditional patterns on this hook for an extra bite into fish. A Wooly Bugger tied on this will do much better on Bass then tied on a trout hook. The B10S is 1x strong so it works awesome for saltwater species.

My all time favorite hook for small tarpon and bass.

This is the only hook I use now for my saltwater streamer/bait fish patterns. I’ve gotten away from stainless so that my hooks rust out quicker if I leave a fly in a fish. This hook is really sharp, small barb, wide gape, strong, and hooks well. And most important–they come in a 100 pack. I tie a lot and I hate those small packages.

  3. Question

    Adam

I like the big gap, however how strong are these hooks? I’m thinking 2/0 for Amazonian peacock bass in the 10-20# range.

The 2/0 is suitable for big Amazon peacocks. You can even play it safer and go with the Gamakatsu SL12S 4/0 which is very close in size and gap to the 2/0 B10S, but it’s a stronger hook.
