Tapered, synthetic bucktail-like fibers
Synthetic Faux Bucktail fibers have the same diameter, gentle crinkle, and taper as premium natural bucktail. Being that they have the same basic properties, Faux Bucktail gives your fly virtually identical action in the water to a fly tied with the natural stuff. The differences lie in the density and durability. Unlike natural bucktail, these synthetic fibers are not hollow and will sink faster. They are also more durable, making them ideal for dorado, pike, musky, mackerel, and barracuda flies. Each Faux Bucktail fiber is 6″ (152mm) long, giving you more usable fibers per tail. Tie a variety of saltwater & warmwater patterns including clousers and deceivers, as well as trout patterns, more efficiently with Faux Bucktail.

….for what I needed. For my purposes, the material is very heavy, too straight, doesn’t splay like real buck tail, and just doesn’t have the ‘crinkle’ to it that real buck tail has. It also doesn’t tie down in the same manner, leaving a bulky finish, where real buck tail tends to flatten as you wind the thread over it. It overpowered my saddle hackle terribly, as well. Tying Deceivers with it, in my experience, has been a bust. Will it work for other applications? Maybe, but in my case it was a bomb. So disappointed!
