Slater’s Poon Bug is the ticket for spooky ocean-side Tarpon because its non-obtrusive profile. The Marabou and hackles undulate to give that micro-movement to trigger strikes. Tied on a super sticky Tiemco 600sp. The Poon Bug should also be in your arsenal of dredging flies for big backcountry fish. These fish tend to pick up olive and rustic colors well in stained backcountry water, especially when the sun is out and high. Sparsity of the materials helps the fly get down quick while there’s still enough meat and movement to get the fish’s attention.
