About Tibor
Tibor Reel Corporation founder Tibor “Ted” Juracsik met Billy Pate on a Florida Keys fishing trip in 1970. The two became fishing buddies and Pate opened Ted’s eyes to the corrosion and faulty drag systems that plagued his reels and made landing big saltwater species a near impossibility.
Ted returned to his tool and die shop determined to solve Pate’s reel problems. He named his solution after his friend and introduced it to the world in 1976. The Billy Pate Fly Reel turned fighting strong saltwater fish from scary, to pleasurable. Tibor reels quickly set the new standards for quality, design, and durability of saltwater fly reels.
With the exception of the ball bearings, every part of every Tibor reel is precision machined and assembled by hand in the Tibor facility in Delray Beach, Florida. Tibor reels’ strength and durability can be attributed to Ted’s value of simplicity and functionality. “The old masters always told me the most beautiful machines have the least moving parts.” – Tibor “Ted” Juracsik. Fly fishing legends such as Lefty Kreh can be seen proudly wielding Tibor reels, and in 2013 Tibor Reel Corporation received a first place World Record Achievement Award for the most world records set on their fly reels by the IGFA. The number of records at the time was 808, more than any other reel company in history.
