When it comes to fishy feathers, this is what I think of: a multi-colored, blended feather that has natural movement and is perfect straight out of the pack. Choosing the right feather in fly tying is important—it directly affects the fly’s appearance, movement, and effectiveness in mimicking natural prey. The texture, color, and transparency of a feather can determine how well the fly fishes. Getting the right color can make or break a presentation. Whether you’re tying a baitfish, a big musky pattern, a small tarpon fly, or a largemouth bass fly, selecting the right feather brings your pattern to life and can make all the difference in enticing a strike. I feel Montana Fly Company did an incredible job bringing these new fish feathers to market – allowing us tiers and anglers to fine tune the bugginess of our patterns.

Grizzly Black/Red
This feathers color is perfect for a palolo worm variation. In the video I tied a fly that I would love to throw in front of oceanside tarpon.
Arrowhead Yellow/Olive
The "yellow hammer" color. This color out the back of a tarpon or muskie fly looks deadly. Used as a collar for a tarpon toad this would fit in perfectly.
Arrowhead Chart/White
The classic snook color. White and chartreuse along the mangroves is a deadly combination. The wide profile and contrast of colors make it a no brainer to tie this in a snook fly.
